I am attempting to bring a new BDC into my domain and it will not authenticate users
Im sure it is very simple but, my new NT4 BDC is not authenticating users when it is online.
I had a network with NT 4.0 PDC only, want to get into a redundent situation and migrate up to 2003.
have a plan, but first need to make a fully functional BDC on this new hardware.
installed NT, as BDC, nic ok, found in server mgr on both BDC and PDC, did sync, all users show up in user mgr for domains on both machines, IP addressing is ok.
When the BDC is running my users cannot seem to loginto the network, server not avaliable.....
I shut down "new BDC" and all is good.
What do I look at to? What am I missing?
I should know this :(
Thanks

Running about 20 XP machines, and 5 W2K, and 1 machine running W98. All reported issues were with the XP machines
total users listed in the domain about 45, active users really logging in, 28.
It only took about 5 seconds and notified me that it was done, the users populated in the BDC so I thought, All good.

Is the BDC pointing to the same server for WINS as the clients and the PDC are?
ASKER
The PDC is the WINS serever. As far as I know all are pointing at it. Ill check some of the pcs I know to have had problems.
Thanks
P.S. Dont understand how WINS server would affect the logon?

1. what kind of client computers are there running? XP, W2K or W9x?
2. how may users are there in the domain? how long have you spent to synchronize BDC with the PDC?
