copying HDD image to larger drive with powerquest drive image 7.0

I've copied my entire HDD image to a larger 120Gb. device [both maxtor].

I used the original winXP CD to partition/format the new drive [the same as I did with the old one] and then used image drive 7.0 to copy it across. I disabled SMART SECTOR copy & copy MBR.

The image drive program says everything is fine - i.e. succeeded! - 'BUT!'.......

.....it will not boot? all I get is the splash screen with windows XP logo on it, but without the welcome or user names? then it just hangs?

the partition is the same as the original with the 7.8 unallocated space & NTFS. It is set to: active, primary, master. It is also installed on the data ribbon at the master [black] position not the grey slave position.

The bios is set to boot from HDD-0.

using: WinXP SP1a. Prof.

Any ideas please?

I'm not using Ghost! - I'm using drive image 7.0 - powerquest.

don't fancy a repair install at this stage.

the registery procedure above sounds hazardous, not convinced!

I've tride fixMBR & fixboot, but no success there either.

Perhaps you know of a full proof method/ tool  to copy winxp sp1a [active] from one drive to another [larger drive]?

any more ideas please?

I got the latest Max[tor]Blast Util v3.0 from their web site. ISO'd --> CD. Boot CD in windows environment and it worked fine. Copied it across and booted new HDD. Result! - It went all the way to the desktop! Full boot up with no probs. at all.

Give myself 'a pat on the back'.

what do I do about the points though?
THIS SAYS IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO CLONE!

Product Activation Overview
Microsoft Product Activation is an anti-piracy technology designed to verify that software products have been legitimately licensed. This aims to reduce a form of piracy known as casual copying. Activation also helps protect against hard drive cloning. Activation is quick, simple, and unobtrusive, and it protects your privacy.

I've tried drive Image and ghost from a floppy but it doesn't work?

.....just hangs  at the welcome screen but without the welcome and without the users either i.e. blank blue background?

the ghost program says successful but it isn't successful at all.

Maxblast got to the desktop but that is all, then - corruption,- seems I spoke too soon :(

sysprep just hangs too? [i.e. task manager - not responding message], there is also a warning about having a suitable licence to duplicate to another drive using sysprep?

does sysprep itself require activation?
I've split the points because there was NO acceptable answer.

'As I said before Acronis True Image, Ghost, Drive Image are better backup programs than Casper. I have Casper so I know of what I say'

No, I don't agree, I have tried all these programs and FOLLOWED their instructions and the only one that worked in my case was the casper, but we are ALL aloud our favourites - well, usually?

If you come on experts exchange it seems you are forced to accept other peoples favourite programs by having them rammed down your throat! e.g. ghost, ghost, ghost, ghost, ghost, ghost, ghost etc etc...........................................

Surely it its up to people who read this stuff to make up their own minds which solutions to try out. If you continue to 'rubbish' [bad mouth] my suggestions then I WILL do the same back to you. If someone wants to try ghost or casper, then it should be up to them? You say try ghost, I say try casper! Surely I have as much right to be heard as anyone else?
