Sniffer recommendation
I am assigned to recommend a sniffer for my company. I have worked with ethereal in the past but these guys are looking out for a full-force commercial sniffer.
If somebody has prepared a comparison sheet/report for their company and if they could share it, that would be fantastic.
otherwise, comments about various different types of sniffers I should be looking at would be welcome.
Sometimes, these network magazines also feature lab tests for products and I am trying to find for these
Thank you

Start with unix, ignore MS, proceed to TCPdump, check in on Network Associates, take the hardware approach, then realize there is no such critter. When seeking management options and robustness,
Check back on what the goals are here, the ones stated, the ones needed, and what it'll take to satisfy requirements. Snooping in and of itself is non-productive and rather wasteful of resources.
The "comparison sheet/report " could do well enough to get bosses off your back, but I doubt that results will be readily achieved for what is really needed, which is .... what?

each company should have a policy to allow an engineer to wack off their company management and replace it with either themselves or somebody who can make some sense for god's sake. These guys are just BSing me for documentation and i doubt they would ever purchase one.
