Outlook 2007 body of email disappears except for attachment

Hello,
I have recently upgraded my laptop to Vista business and Office 2007 pro. I have been using Outlook 2007 and did not seem to notice any issues until now.
2 weeks ago i spent 1 hour writing a long email to a client with a word attachment. I contacted the customer a few days later and he only received the email with attachemnt and nothing in body of email. I checked sent items and it also was a blank email with the word attachement. I know that it may have been possible that i deleted the long email i wrote although i am 100% sure i did not.

Anyway i sent another email to different client last week and it took 2 hours approx to write. The same thing has happened and i am sure also that the body was not deleted.

I have no idea where to start looking for resolution. The drafts folder is empty in outlook and i have checked other outlook settings.

Any help is greatly appreciated as i am strongly confidering to go back to outlook 2003 as i cant afford to have this happen again

Many Thanks
Max

Just a long shot.  Are you sending and viewing the email in text or html?   I have seen this where someone sends in email with only text and the receiver is viewing only in html so the text is hidden and the email looks blank.  That would not explain why you no longer see the body.

Hi Steveoskh,
Thanks for quick reply. My outlook is set to send all emails as HTML. I searched for one of the problem emails that had blank body and went to properties and it show as

 type message: plain text

I have checked other sent messages i have sent and they all show as

Type message (HTML)

I then checked the other email that i mentioned that also had no text in body and it shows as

 type message: plain text

Any suggestions?
Thanks
Max

Greetings MaxColmer !

Format of email could be the issue. So the two emails that you sent and showed blank body was sent in Plain Text.

Try to send email in HTML format with Word attachment and test if recipient receives the email body.  When composing the email, make sure HTML is selected.

Best wishes, war1
Hi War1,

My outlook is set to send all in HTML. I have no idea why they are showing as plain text. All other emails that i have sent to recipients who have received both body and attachment are showing up as HTML in properties.

Why would the email show as plain text when the outlook client is set to send as HTML.
FYI, all latest patches installed for OS and office.

Rgds

I forgot to ask is it possible to get the text back from the emails i sent even though  there is nothing in the email body in sent items.? I doubt it but would save alot of typing if so!
Max,

If the original email is in Plain Text, and you hit Reply, the format will be that of orignal email, if you do not manually change it to HTML.  That would be a reason that sent email is in Plain Text.
>> I forgot to ask is it possible to get the text back from the emails i sent even though  there is nothing in the email body in sent items.? >>

In the Sent folder, reply to the problem email.  Sometimes text will show in reply when not in original message.
The emails in question were new email messages i created. It is maybe a coincidence but both the messages took over an hour to write before i sent. Any other message i am aware of that arrived ok were sent within a fe mins. As i said it is prob nothing but want to provide as much info as possible.

One of the mails i sent i also CC'ed my collegue and he also received blank body of email.

We are using Exchange 2003 server (part of SBS 2003)

I tried replying to both emails but no text....
Sorry, looks like I took you down a dead trail.  Might be interesting to explore the hour thing.  Start creating an email, wait an hour, add something and send it.
Final suggestion is for long or complex email I like to compose them in something like Word so that I can save them and avoid losing work because of some other computer problem.
Try disabling MS Word as editor and test if blank body is still received.  Go to Tools > Options > Format and uncheck using Word as editor.
Hi War1/ Stevoskh

Sorry for delay getting back. From what i understand there is no option to turn off MS word in outlook 2007 as this is used my default.

I tried waiting hour sending email with similiar body and it worked. I cannot find anything on google about this issue.

Any other suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi War1,

Thanks

You are welcome, Max!
I had this problem in Outlook 2003. After reading your analysis, I did a little testing and found the following solution:

If the body of an email does not show up, Open the Email. Select FORMAT, Select Plain Text, Click Yes to the message that says the RICH TEXT formatting will be lost, and the text then reappears. This appears to be an issue with Outlook 2003 trying to display RICH Text. Anyway this worked for me, I hope it can help someone else.
Hello
I have the same problem, and after disabling AVG it still remained.
When I am inside of an attachement (excel doc, for example) I want to send, and then go to send e-mail, all that I add to body of the message (outlook mail) dissapears and is not visible in sent items neither. The attachment remains.
Could you help me, please?
Thanks

Julija, you may want to ask a new question.
I am having the same problem with Outlook 2010.  This doesn't happen all of the time - just some of the time.  It always happens when there is an attachment to the email.  Usually PDF attachments but it is also happening with JPGs - please advise.
