Email spoofing

Hi

There seemed to be a lot of spoofed emails going about, and I was wondering how people did this? Do they telnet to some server's SMTP port and try and send out mails that way, use programs that can change the 'from' header, etc?

If we receive an email we think has been spoofed, we normally check its source IP address against the registered info for that domain. But is IP spoofing usually used in conjunction with this?

Thanks

Very good comment from jwilding! The comment about Exchange not being able to reject non-RDNS-successes is to the point... I haven't yet understood why... Perhaps they're payed by SPAMmers.
