Outlook 2010 - Exchange 2003 - Outbox hanging

For the last few days a single user of Outlook 2010 has been having issues with random emails getting stuck in his Outbox.

It doesn't matter if they are new or reply-to emails or whether they have attachments. The message would sit in the Outbox and if you try to Send/Receive, Outlook would stop responding and the only way to close Outlook.exe (so far anyway) is to pull the plug on the PC as it hangs on restart.

The temp fix is to recreate the Outlook profile but this is getting old fast.

Is the Outlook is online Mode or Cache Mode?

Try moving the Users Mailbox from one Database to another on the Exchange Server.
This is to remove any corruption on that Mailbox which could cause this Issue.
Try outlook /safe to rule out add-ins etc causing this issue. If that works, try outlook /noextensions
I would indeed inform us, as said by AshwinRaj, if outlook is running in online or cached mode. There are some known issues with Outlook 2010 in combination with Exchange 2003 due to the difference in polling protocols used. Basically in OLK 2010 they dropped the polling used by E2003 and are not planning on correcting this...

If you're in cached mode that should not be an issue so try the outlook /safe and see if that makes a difference...
Have you any anti-virus software running on the client.  Does it have email integration (ie. scanning email content on the client itself)) ?   It could be that the cleint angine is scanning and hanging it.  Go to Options/Addin, and look at anything in there.  You could also look Com-Addins and click Go, and untick any non favourable add-ins

Outlook was set to cached mode but it have changed that now.
There is only one database.

I will try safe mode next.

AV is Trend WFBS.

I'll be interested to see what happens with /safe and then /noextensions
Ran a repair on Office but had the same problem
Running in Safe Mode at the moment - I was able to do a complete archive without a single hang
Will try /noextensions  next
Hung again with /noextensions but from my understanding it was after 6 hours of use.
I'm so confused.

We have removed the two archive PST files also in case that has something to do with it.

Outlook isn't particularly good at dealing with PST files on remote shares, and if the are remote....why not have the mail in the user's mailbox ? You are chewing disk space up either way !
Whilst I am sure these are not Outlook version specific -
