Backup Exec Remote Agent Fail on Local server

Hi

I have a Windows Server 2003 with Backup Exec 12 installed on it.
I backup the local server (data server) and a few other remote servers (Exchange, SQL, etc)
All the remote servers are backing up successfully. The problem is with the local server that Backup Exec is installed on....it keeps failing with the following error:

Backup- server
Remote Agent not detected on server.

and

Device       : \\server, C:Check status : Error: e000846b, The job failed with the following error: The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent.

and

(Server: "server") (Job: "Daily Backup") Daily Backup -- The job failed with the following error: The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent.
Make sure that the correct version of the Remote Agent is installed and running on the target computer.

I have re-installed the software and the remote agents on all servers, but I am still getting this error. And I have checked in the services that the login details are correct.

What could be causing this error?

Hi mungwap,

Possible Causes:

The server name in the selection list may contain an invalid character. This can be see in the XML job log.
The item in the selection list is corrupt and needs to be removed and re-selected.

Example of a resource that can fail with the error --  System State.

Solution:

Edit the backup job and remove the selection in Text View of the backup selection list.
Then select the resource again for backup and save the job.

Let me know if this helps.

see

you only need a single port for one computer, but it is not clear how many people you want to be able to view it at once.

Thanks guys for all your help...

Port 10000 was being used by another program.
I had installed a Accounting program on the server, and this had installed a third party backup program (Attix5). This was running in the back ground as a process (a5backup.exe)
Once I removed this software, everything started working again.

Thanks
Hi Guys,

We are new to this site so are looking forward to taking part.

We have exactly the same issue as mungwap but need to keep on using Attix5. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Thanks.
