HOW TO become a VMware Certified Professional 5.0.

There is no shortcut to becoming a VMware Certified Professional, this article has been put together to answer common questions, on how do I become a VCP.

1. You will need to register and attend a VMware Course, at a VMware Authorised Training Centre. The course must satisfy and meet the VCP requirements.

VMware Certified Professional on vSphere 5

Required Coursework

VMware vSphere: Fast Track [V5.0]

VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.0]

VMware vSphere: What's New [V5.0]

2. Take and Pass the Exam.

Check the Exam Blueprint to give you an idea of the content you need to know

As for learning VMware vSphere 5.0, there are many Online Forums, Documentation, Download Evaluations from VMware to test, Build a VMware Lab and also don't forget the Experts are here to help at Experts-Exchange.com

Also fellow VMware vExpert - Brian Atkinson, has just released a new VCP5 Book

Also familarise yourself with the vSphere 5.0 Documents, Experience and use VMware vSphere 5.0 (ESXi 5.0.)

The best method to experience VMware vSphere 5.0 is to build your own lab, it does not have to be expensive, you do not require servers, just VMware 8.0 Workstation or VMware Player 4.0.

VMware Workstation 8.0 (60 day trial, $199)

vSphere 5.0 AutoLab by Alastair Cooke

I would also recommend looking at vSphere 5.0 AutoLabby fellow vExpert - Alastair Cooke

What is the AutoLab?

The AutoLab is a quick easy way to build a vSphere environment for  testing and learning using a single desktop or laptop PC and VMware  Workstation, Fusion or ESXi. The whole lab runs in VMs on that one PC,  even ESXi runs in a VM and can then run it’s own VMs.

Take a look over at ProfessionalVMware for details of how to get started with building your own vSphere 5 AutoLab.

Nice idea for an article.
I see a lot of questions from people wanting to know how to become certified in <fill in the blank> IT specialties.

Make sure you post a link to this article when you respond to one of those questions.

@donkeywheel, do it yourself, build a lab, read the books, ask questions on EE, Pass the Exam, and then Ask your Employeer for the Money to Do the Advanced Courses, which will benefit your employer, and if you complete correct Training Elective, you'll get your VCP! (because VMware will only award you a VCP, if though you've passed the exam, if you have been on their training courses, Online Training Courses are coming down!)
