Scenario 1

Online backup was taken successfull and then 1 mailbox was moved to another mailbox store. Then due to some old email deletion, user reuested to retrive that email.

When we restore that backup in Recovery Storage Group/other production store, we will not be able to merge the data (E2K3 SP2 feature) or use exmerge since that AD account already have mailbox in another store (as we moved it after backup).

It fails with this error: The Operation cannot be performed because this mailbox was already reconnected to an existing user. ID no. c1034ad6. Exchange System Manager

So follow this method - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/930363

Scenario 2

By mistake, AD account was deleted. Now on urgent basis we need to restore that mailbox for use.

Add the mailbox store which has orphaned mailbox (after runing cleanup agent) in Mailbox Recovery Center. Then create 1 AD account without mailbox and follow - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996202(EXCHG.65).aspx.

Facts about Mailbox Recovery Center

Mailbox Recovery Center will work, only when, AD user account is deleted and mailbox is orphaned. If original AD account is present, we need to follow the article mentioned in Scenario 1.

Good one (^_^) .. we did face the same scenario as Scenario 1 and disconnecting the exchange mailbox of the effected user did the trick.
