Why isn't your Hotmail (Outlook.com) email account connecting to Microsoft Outlook desktop?

Are you unable to connect or configure Hotmail email account in Microsoft Outlook 2010, 2007? Or Outlook.com emails are not downloading to Outlook? Lets’ see the problem and resolve Outlook Connector error syncing folder hierarchy (0x8004102A).
In 2012 Hotmail.com is renamed to Outlook.com is a free web based web-mail,  service provided by Microsoft, on the other hand MS Outlook is desktop based email service. There is a need of internet connection to open and view Hotmail email account but there is no need of internet connection to open and view mails store on Outlook. Sometimes users required to configured their Hotmail account on Outlook desktop to view messages in Offline mode. So in this post we are going to discussed that how we can configured their Outlook Mail account on MS Outlook with the help of Outlook Hotmail connector and the resolutions of error that come at the time of account configuration.
 

Method 1: Configure Hotmail Email Account with MS Outlook Using Hotmail Connector


You can manage their Outlook.com email account in MS Outlook 2010, MS Outlook 2007 and MS Outlook 2003 with the help of Outlook Hotmail connector software but you should remember that the Hotmail connector software should be 32 bit, if your using MS Outlook 2010 (32-bit). To configure an Hotmail account in MS Outlook you need to install Outlook Hotmail connector on your machine.

Note: Outlook Hotmail connector software does not support MS Outlook 2013 and 2016.
 

Configure Hotmail Email Account in MS Outlook 2010

This configuration process includes the following steps:

1. Open MS Outlook on your machine. Go to File menu, click on Info and then click on Add Account.

2. Click on Manually configure server settings or additional server types, and then click on Next button.

3. Click on Other and the choose Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector. After that click on Next button.

4. Now, Enter your name, email address, and password, and then click on OK button.

5. When the confirmation dialog box appears then click on Finish button.


Configure Hotmail Email Account in Microsoft Outlook 2007 and 2003

This process includes the following steps:

1. Open MS Outlook on your machine. Click on Outlook Connector menu and then click on Add a New Account.

2. Now, Enter your name, email address, and password, and then click on OK button.

Error After Configuration Of Outlook.com email account in MS Outlook

After the configuration of Hotmail email account in MS Outlook, the emails do not download from Outlook.com email account to MS Outlook. This error is faced by many users.

Method 2: Resolution of Error for not Downloading Hotmail Emails in Outlook


The error during downloading of mails after configuration can be solved by the following steps:

1. Close Microsoft Outlook.

2. Delete SRS file from location C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

3. Now, take backup of PST file and delete it from the default. The location of PST file is C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

4. After that configure new account in Outlook by enter your name, email address and password.  To do so, again go to Control Panel >> Click on Mail >> Hit on Add button >> Enter Profile name and hit OK.

5. Click on Manually configure server settings or additional server types, and then click on Next button.

6. Choose Internet E-mail (Connect to POP, IMAP, or HTTP server to send/receive emails)  and then click on NEXT button.

7. A new window will appear, enter the required details

    Your Name: User Name

    Email address: yourname@hotmail.com

    Account Type: POP3/ IMAP

    Incoming mail server: pop-mail.outlook.com
    Or    pop3.live.com

    Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp-mail.outlook.com
    Or    smtp.live.com

    User Name: yourname@hotmail.com

    Password: Your current password of Hotmail account

    Optional: Check the "Remember password" option.

8. After that click on More Settings. Click on Outgoing server and then check My outgoing server(SMTP) require authentication.

9. Click on Advanced, enter 995 in Incoming server (POP3) & check this server requires an encrypted connection(SSL). Enter 587 in Outgoing server (SMTP) and choose TLS as encrypted connection and then click OK.

10. Optional: Leave a copy of messages on the server and click OK.

11. Click on Test Account Settings.

12. After successfully testing, click on NEXT and after that click on Finish button to close wizard.

After following the Method 2, your Hotmail account emails will start downloading in Microsoft Outlook without getting an error.

Note: No need to download Hotmail connector to follow the above steps.

Conclusion


Before configuring your Hotmail email account in MS Outlook with the help of manual method, it is recommended that you should take a backup of Hotmail email account so that if your data is lost during account configuration then you can recover it from a backup of Hotmail.
