First of all let me say that the only language that I speak is English, but in answering questions here I often come across people whose English skills are not the best and I’d like to be able to communicate better with them, and the following describes what I’ve done on occasion.

It just so happens that I have recently been helping a person whose native language is Spanish and I came up with this method which really helped cut down on my “I’m sorry but I don’t understand what you mean” responses. BTW, although I’m talking about communicating with a Spanish speaker, this simple technique can be used with many languages (over a hundred at last count).

The method, as this article’s title states is Google Translate.

Experts-Exchange likes all questions and answers to be in English but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with English and English translated into another language, so what I do is  to first set up Google Translate so that the from language is English and the to language is Spanish. I then write my answer in English in the post, copy and paste it into Google Translate and then copy Google’s translation and add it to the post. I also ask the person to do something similar; compose the text of their question in Google Translate and then post the English translation. The translations may not be perfect but they are good enough for one person to have asked me if I spoke Spanish. That can obviously be done not just for answers, but also for questions.

The following was translated using Google Translate.
