The early release of Sage 50 Quantum 2020 has issues with client installation. This article is to help those that may run into this so they can analyze and resolve.

Sage 50 Quantum 2020 is released in US. Client's have made their purchase, received their instructions, and tasked you with updating their software to the latest and greatest. However there is just one problem with the installation of the first release, after you have installed this on the client side it will not connect and continues to error out.

The purpose of this article is to give you the steps necessary to correct the known issue with first run after the upgrade. If your errors are similar to the the following examples, this may be the information you need to quickly resolve!

If you are doing any Sage upgrades to 2020 for clients, be wary that the upgrade doesn't work smoothly. If a user isn't a local admin, the config file for the data path doesn't map properly even though the installer seems to work like it is supposed to. Then, the update for the first Tax Updates for August doesn't appear to find the data path to the company files you just located and installed the program to retrieve data.

First, locate the .ini file for the config of the newly installed program. Typically it is something like "C:\ProgramData\Sage\Peachtree", see the example in the screenshot below. You will be looking for a file named "Peachtree270" and this will have the locations for the data path.

Here, edit this file and look about a quarter of the way down for the entry "DATAPATH=" and make sure this is correct. The default one that is causing the issue is  "Datapath=\" which is not the location of the company files. If this is the case, change it to an example below, yours may vary based on clients mapped drives or network shares. "DATAPATH=Z:\Company\"

After you make this edit, save and exit the config file. Special note, sometimes it will not let you overwrite the file with save. If this is the case, open Notepad as an administrator then browse to the location of your file from above then open it from inside an Admin Notepad. Then make changes and save and exit.

Attempt to open Sage, you should be able too if your data path is correct. Once you are inside of Sage, it is recommended to run an update check immediately as there have been releases of Tax Updates and you may be behind. As you progress through the Tax Update, you will reach an area that asks for the data path to the Company files you just pointed to. The installer tends to default to the Root of C:\ so you need to adjust this. I have an example image below. For me, I had to copy the FQDN "\\computer\share\company\" and paste this in the browse field as it wouldn't find the network shares. After replacing this, progress through the installer and complete.

Congratulations! Finally, you have installed Sage 50 Quantum 2020 and with a little persistence, you should now be able to use the program! I hope this helps some others prevent hours of analyzing errors and waiting on support contact to resolve.
