Are you ready to share your knowledge with your peers, grow your audience, and be recognized for your content and contributions that help others succeed? This blog will help you get started! Learn about the many different ways you can contribute to the EE community - there's more than Q&A!
This blog is here to help all EE members understand the many many different ways that you can participate in the community. Before you jump into HOW you can contribute, here are a few thoughts to keep in mind.

(NOTEIf you're new to EE and still trying to understand who we are and what we do, check this out: Community 101.)

💬 Q&A

This is where we see the most engagement between our members!

What is Q&A and how is it used?
Questions on EE are simply collaborative conversations. Members use this feature to ask questions that they need insight or advice on. Often times members asking questions are troubleshooting a problem and looking for a solution.

How do I ask a question?
Check out this guide on how question asking works and how you make your question visible to other members. To ask a question, go to your left navigation, click Questions, then click Ask.

How do I participate on other people's questions?

The easiest way to find questions that you can participate on is in your Contribute page.

Follow the steps below to set up your Contribute page. The page is populated based on what topics you are following. If you are not following topics yet, the Contribute page will be blank.

Once you follow topics, the page will populate with a curated feed of new questions in the topics you are interested in.

    1. In your left navigation, click Questions > Contribute.

2. Are you following topics yet?
    • If you are not yet following topics: You will see a screen that explains how to follow topics and set up your communication preferences for new questions. Click the blue Follow Topics button.
    • If you are already following topics: You should see new questions in your list!

3. Set your communication preferences so that you can be notified of new questions you can participate on.
    • Click the Star icon in the right side bar of the Contribute page. You will see a list of the topics you are following.
    • Click Edit Followed Topics.
    • On the right side of the screen, click the menu next to each topic. From here you can turn on site notifications, turn on email notifications, and turn on notifications for questions that need extra attention from members.

4. You're all set! On your Contribute page, you should see new questions in your followed topics, and you will be notified about those new questions based on your preferences.

📰 Posts

This is one of the easiest ways to share your thoughts with other members!

What are Posts and how are they used?
Posts are where members share quick information like industry news and updates.

Did you find a great article that others should read? Post it with the link! Is there a major update rolling out in your area of interest? Let other members know what you think! Maybe you found an awesome new tool to utilize in your work. Share it!

You can find the feed of posts and start posting here.

📝 Articles & Blogs

EE Articles are a great way to participate if you love to write!

What are Articles and how are they used?
EE articles are fantastic resources for unique and useful information. Our community is full of technology professionals who contribute practical knowledge through articles on best practices, FAQs, tips, tricks, and tutorials. Members also share professional experience on a variety of technical topics through advice articles.

How do I write and submit an article?
You can jump right in and start writing here. Make sure to add relevant topics so other members can find it!

Check out some of these helpful resources before you start:
Why Write an Article?
EE Article Guidelines

Can I copy and paste an article or blog that I've written outside of EE?
Certainly! As long as it's your original work. When submitting your article, there is a location for you to add a canonical URL if necessary. If you are simply looking to share someone else's article, consider doing that in a Post instead by sharing the link to the original piece of work.

📽 Video Tutorials

Video is one of the most popular ways of creating and consuming content these days.

What are Video Tutorials and how are they used?
A video can be something as small as a micro tutorial, or as long as a course. Do you create YouTube videos that you want to share on EE as well? Great! Are you a course instructor who enjoys teaching through video tutorials? Or, maybe you just learned a new skill and you quickly want to show your peers through a quick screen share!

How do I submit a video?
You can upload your video and add a summary and details here. Make sure to add relevant topics so other members can find it!

Can I submit a video that I have created elsewhere?
Yep! As long as it's your original work. When submitting your video, there is a location for you to add a canonical URL if necessary. If you are simply looking to share someone else's video content, consider doing that in a Post instead by sharing the link to the original piece of work.

👥 Group Discussions

You can also host your own group!

What are groups and how are they used?
Groups can be created by any EE member, and they can be private or public. So you can create a group and invite only certain people, or you can create a group that any EE member can join! Within groups are discussion threads, any group member can kick off a new discussion or comment in an existing discussion.

How are Group Discussions different than Q&A?
Discussions are typically ongoing conversations that don't necessarily end in a "solution".

Discussions are intended to be open ended, where as Q&A typically results in a solution or specific piece of advice that is marked as a solution.

How do I get involved in groups?
You can visit the Groups page and explore groups to join here. Click on a group, and at the top right corner of the group home page, you can click Join Group. If you're looking for your first group to join, you can join us here in the group for all EE members!

Or, create your own group here! After creating the group, you can invite members from the left side of the page.

Okay, I'm ready to participate, but I still have some questions...

Great! We'd love to chat with you and help you get started in the areas you're interested in. Simply reach out to us here at community@experts-exchange.com and our Community Team will get right back to you.
