Visual Studio Community Edition

For those who have not seen, Microsoft has released what they are calling a "community edition" of Visual Studio 2013. Like the express editions, the Community Edition is free to use; however, there are certain restrictions one must follow. In a nutshell, individuals, open-source projects, academia, and small companies can use the tool without charge; enterprise still needs a standard license for one of the paid editions.

The most obvious (and most pleasant) change over the Express editions is that you can now use extensions. So now you can have your Resharper and Power Tools running at home!

I've just downloaded it myself, so I don't know all the quirks of it yet, but at first glance it appears comparable to the editions I've used in the past.

<--- Probably the only person on the planet that has not upgraded his home computer to Windows 7 or Windows 8.  So alas, I cannot use 2013 as of yet on my home computer.  But I do use it at work...  :D

Interesting:

Q: How does Visual Studio Community 2013 compare to other Visual Studio editions?
A: Visual Studio Community 2013 includes all the great functionality of Visual Studio Professional 2013, designed and optimized for individual developers, students, open source contributors, and small teams.

So it includes everything in VS2013 Pro.  ;)

I'll get around to it one of these days.  I wanted to do a hardware upgrade first.  Nothing major, probably upgrade the video card and replace my current SSD (128GB) with a Terabyte SSD.  :D

For those of you keen to use it, the NVIDIA Toolkit's Visual Studio integration works with the Community Edition of VS. I've just installed the toolkit without incident. The toolkit would not integrate with the Express editions of VS.
