Overall I'm impressed with everything on the macbook except the one port. With the exclusion of the basic USB port it seems Apple has segregated itself further away from other brands. Will others follow the USB-C port?
Apple's had a long history of leading the pack when it comes to new port types. I remember when everyone freaked out over the original iMac which got rid of all sorts of ports in favor of USB (and even killed off the floppy drive - y'know, the "save icon"!)
Seems like almost everyone thought they were crazy for such a drastic shift to USB, but the benefits were pretty great and Apple's bold move really helped move the entire industry forward. Pretty much ever since then, they've kept doing similar things.

I suspect this will be much the same.
