headlines

Who decided to add Headlines when viewing questions? Why is is shown there?

When I click on question to possibly comment on it, the last thing I want is to see very often unrelated and uninteresting headlines. I use other sites (like feedly) to see headlines that are relevant to me.

Where is the settings to hide them?

another funny thing. I have sent a question to the Support team (before getting the answer from slightwv) and this is the answer I got:

Thank you for your feedback.
Unfortunately, at this time, you are unable to hide the headlines.
Our development team is currently working on making more relevant headlines appear to users.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

It looks like they don't even know the workaround listed here!

Maybe somebody with the needed skills write something (bookmarklet?) to hide the div?

<div class="component aggregatedRssFeedList headlinesListOuterWrapper" id="aggregatedRssFeedList">
...
</div>
