Inactive Closures

The inactive system kicks in when a question hasn't been closed and there hasn't been a comment for 14 days.  It gives the participating experts a chance to identify good answers and close the question.  This also means that they're able to give themselves points and as such introduces a conflict of interest.

Based on the discussion: https://www.experts-exchange.com/discussions/218293/Self-signing-points-abuse.html

Post here with a link to the question when describe what you do or don't like about the way that question was closed or didn't work or where the inactive process has failed.

This isn't for objections, this is just to identify and capture the relevant data to determine a pattern of unwanted behaviour.  This will drive change.

But that removes any incentive for Experts to close.

There would be zero incentive, as the system would auto-close/delete the question.

Julian makes a very good point:
how to improve the quality of selected answers for the site as a whole
Here is my suggestion.

Forget about "closing" the questions.  Just use the endorsements as the sole indicator of an adequate answer.  Give some points with each endorsement.  Let anyone with a certain number of points (pick a number... 1,000,000 maybe) "protect" a question.  Treat the protected questions as exemplary and canonical solutions to the many repetitive questions that we keep getting.

Any update to this issue?

Actually, the closure of such questions shall be reviewed by designated experts of the zone where the question are assigned and it is not a difficult implementation as there is not much change to the current system.

That is the wrong conclusion, Jackie, and just one of many opinions shown in the corresponding discussions.

As stated above, a peer review by DEs is not significantly different from what we already have with Cleanup - the only difference is that there is a closing recommendation posted already.

And I'm certain you would complain if you got notifications for each inactive question with a closing recommendation posted, just because you are a Designated Expert in that topic ...

It would also require a significant change in the closing process, so "not much change in the current system" is not true.

@Modalot: Then just provide an option to opt out of closing inactive questions. I'm confident there will still be plenty of DEs in fields who would be willing to close questions.

There is difference if more experts are involved to do cleanup.
