I have been developing software for just over 40 years for a variety of industries on all kinds of platforms using various development tools.
My "weapon of choice" on mainframes is PL/I; on Windows platforms it is Delphi. However, I also develop in COBOL, C#, and various other languages against everything from .dbf to MS Access to Teradata, Oracle, MS SQL Server, MSDE, DB/2 and various other SQL databases. (I can remember when C first came out and when Unix was created . . . both of which are intertwined in their origins. ;-)
I have been working with relational databases since before the term was invented and I have been doing database architecture since before there were DBA's. I have done ETL from the beginning and, needless to say, since before the term was invented. ;-)
I was mentored early in my career by some extreme heavy-weights in the industry and firmly believe that the only way one can "pay back" such a gift is to mentor those who come after you.
