Professional Background
Global Infrastructure Architect
New employer
January 2017 – Present
South-eastern Pennsylvania (USA)
Leading a team of global infrastructure engineers and administrators, I am responsible for the infrastructure architecture throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
Enterprise Systems Manager
Last Employer
December 2009 – January 2017
Philadelphia, PA (USA)
Naturally I still had the responsibilities of my "Senior Systems Engineer" position, but as a manager I get to officially boss around a few guys also. <wink>

Senior Systems Engineer 12/2009 to 01/2016
Senior geek in a team of systems administrators working predominantly with Windows-based servers and some VMware too.  I'm content being a team lead; I don't like the crap Managers have to deal with, plus the loss of touch in technology that can occur.

*The* messaging nerd of the team, presently running Exchange 2013, held back by an ancient implementation of OCS.  One of these days they'll let me shut it down so I can bump us to Exchange 2016, but at least 2013 beats the 2003 environment that was here when I started.

I am the key person responsible for Active Directory Domain (2008R2), EMC SANs, and anything involving MS-Intel technology essentially.  I guess that's why I'm the senior geek.
President
Different Previous Fire Department
September 2008 – September 2015
Central BucksArea, PA (USA)
Amongst my hats I served as a firefighter, fire police, driver, photographer, techno geek, and communications.

09/2008-09/2015 - Firefighter
Provided fire suppression and rescue services to the community as necessary per emergency.
Additionally served as scene photographer, equipment operator and driver.

03/2010-09/2015 - Fire Police
Provided scene safety via traffic and crowd control.

01/2012-01/2015 - President
What else does a President do, but sit around telling people what to do.  Okay, not in this case - that's what the Chief does. As President I oversaw the administrative functions of the organization, including finances and facilities.

03/2012-04/2013 - Safety Officer
Monitored fire fighter activities to ensure safety protocols are being followed.

09/2008-09/2015 - Technology Chair
Architected and installed network, telephone and television technology throughout the new station.
Architected computer infrastructure, including server, workstations and printers, plus dispatch hardware integration.
Senior Systems Engineer
Big American Bank
October 1993 – November 2005
Horsham, PA (USA)
Started out as a monkey carrying equipment for the only technology guy on staff while he healed from leg surgery.  It was a much smaller company then and didn't need a lot of technical personnel.

We were a beta test site, not only for Windows NT 3.1, but also for the DEC Alpha workstation.  It was ironic that the machine used a Compaq video board and several years later Compaq bought DEC.  Considering that machine was 64-bit, it took an awful long time for 64-bit architecture to hit the PC mainstream.

As I proved my own technical prowess and took on more responsibility, I worked my way up the technological ladder, stopping just short of management.

I implemented Microsoft Mail 1.0 on top of DECnet with Windows 3.11 and DEC VAX/VMS systems.  With a brief bought to Lotus Notes on OS/2 Warp with Novell Netware 4.1, we finally entered the Exchange Server arena at version 4.0 on Windows NT 3.51.  I won a bet and got my MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) earlier that year, back when there were fewer levels to Microsoft's certification schema. The plus 'I' wasn't even introduced yet.

I survived two major acquisitions and could possibly still be there if I were willing to go into management - and move a couple thousand miles at my expense.  I'm a geek, I like being up to my elbows in bits; management isn't necessarily for me, though I did seriously consider the relocation part.
Firefighter
Previous Fire Department
December 1995 – October 2004
Centennial area, PA (USA)
Primarily I was a firefighter and techno geek, but over time I added driver and photographer to the pile.

Full Biography

Having grown up with computers (since the late 1970's), literally as the technology grew up, I have had much experience in desktop and server roles.  I am presently a (Microsoft Solution based) Systems Architect, working full-time for an international organization, with facilities throughout the Americas, Asia and Europe.

I have come here to Experts-Exchange to find assistance in areas that I am weak and provide assistance where I am strong.  I enjoy helping wherever I can.

You are looking at my profile, so clearly you know my nick on EE; with a little effort at yahoo, you can send me a message too!
