More bioI started out with a career in science, which involved working in high volume throughput serology laboratories. Here I took on a role of looking after the technical hardware used to automate various processes and programming more efficient runs to improve efficiency and quality of testing. When looking for promotion i had the opportunity to stay in science or move to a pure IT role which was the direction I decided to take.
Soon after joining the IT department I took on the role of Network administrator and spent my first years in IT consolidating a wide range of skills across all areas of IT services, alongside a complete site refresh and update to the network infrastructure. Looking for new challenges I took the plunge and move to a global service delivery company leading a team dealing with service contracts and managed services.
Most recently in 2012 I was offered the opportunity to be involved in a large redevelopment projects of a world leading research institute. This involves looking after the LAN and WAN areas of the network and working with the project management team as the IT lead on all new building and site infrastructure. Currently we are working on the commissioning of a £150 million world leading laboratory and the redevelopment of site. My role is involved from the high level proposals of the IT systems and infrastructure, down to the detailed design, sourcing and implementation. Once again combining my love of science with my skills as a network engineer and infrastructure management.
