I started off my career in IT working for a small manufacturing company. Eventually I graduated from the Help Desk to the IT Manager. My experience grew as the plant did; eventually covering more than one location and supporting a network of engineers across the country. My time spent supporting IT at the manufacturing level eventually connected me with Plex Systems, Inc.
At the time, Plex Systems, Inc. was a pioneer in what is now cloud SaaS. I came on board the Data Center team of Plex in 2005. It has been amazing to watch the company grow and change over the years, as well as the equipment and technology evolve that I had to work with. I started as an Active Directory and Exchange administrator just as Plex was needing a hosted email solution. My skills were a natural fit at the time and I learned a great deal about AD and Exchange.
Working with a tight-knit group of experts allowed me to encounter a huge variety of different technologies. I have managed vendor relationships, negotiated third party contracts, maintained business partnerships with Microsoft and Cisco, as well as migrated and managed multiple Data Centers. I have helped pick and usher in new hardware and software platforms as well as work to create new standards and processes.
Now, a decade later, in my stint at Plex Systems, I am working on the Management, Automation, and Debug Team (MAD). Maybe you have to be MAD to be on the team, but it allows me to be creative and instrumental in introducing technologies to the company.
