More bioI am a Network Administrator for a medium sized company in Dallas, TX. I have been here for 4 years. I m responsible 20 physical servers and 80 virtual servers. I am also responsible for all networking gear at our two corporate offices as well as all 100+ of our retail locations across the U.S..
I have been working in IT since 1997 where I started for a small 3 man shop installing network cables for schools and building workstations. I have moved through several positions with many companies in various IT positions from Help desk to SR. Technician to Network Admin where I am at now.
I received my CNE in 1999 followed by my MCSE in 2002. I have received other certifications along the way as well such as Dell, A+, 2X and many others. I am currently working on my CCIE, but my current workload may keep me from ever reaching that goal.
I have dabbled in Visual Basic, Visual C+, and Perl. In my earlier days, I was pretty good with HTML, but that was before Java and Flash and all the other neat stuff. I keep my web pages simple.
I consider myself excellent at creating batch files and other scripts to perform everyday repetitive tasks. That comes from laziness more than anything.
I also have delved deep into Linux, specifically Ubuntu Server, over the last 3 years. I have found may unique and interesting uses for it. I still consider myself an amateur at it, but I am getting better all the time. I can do pretty much anything in Linux, I just have to Google for 75% of it.
Prior to getting into IT, I server in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. I server as a Search and Rescue Swimmer and a Structural Hydraulic mechanic. I learned attention to details and basic troubleshooting. A skill that has become incredibly important in the IT world and has helped me reach my current position. While I was not crazy about being in the military at the time, I am glad that I served, both for patriotic pride and the life skills I learned.
