Full Biography

Started learning computers late in life, after a serious injury in Dec 1999..  First learned about Windows, starting off with 98SE, then 2000 (my preferred version of Windows), then a little XP (MCE 2005).

Within a year I discovered Linux, chose Slackware, and fell in love.  Have tried other distros, but being a tinkerer by nature I always came back to Slack.  Also have messed around with two of the the BSDs (FreeBSD and NetBSD), and having better luck with NetBSD.

With lots of spare time on my hands, I quickly became proficient at learning some of the stuff behind the scenes, and discovered I was a natural with computers (wished I knew that much earlier in life. ;-) ).

Being a Linux guru, I'm very proficient with the Bash shell, and have started to broaden my knowledge with some Perl, and now am avidly learning Tcl.  My brother-in-law, who's been in the game for over 25 years, says I've accumalated enough knowledge to converse on the level of a Sysadmin, which seems to fit my talents and inclination.  Although I feel like I've only barely scratched the surface. :-p

Have joined EE to broaden my knowledge, and also love to share what I've learned.  I found early on that I actually learn more when sharing what I know, as it helps to put things into perspective, like putting the pieces of the puzzle in place.  EE seems to be a great resource, and hope to contribute my two cents worth.

Oh yeah, my nickname is "thegeekster" (it was tHegEEksteR at first, but not TheGeekster) and will respond to "geekster". I've done most of my posting at "forums.infoprosjoint.net" and "linuxquestions.org/questions/", with a few more scattered at other sites.
