Although I'm a fairly novice VB programmer, I've worked with databases for over 10 years; primarily with software companies producing niche business database applications. The back-end databases have been Access, Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, Informix and DB2. The software applications were for adverse event reporting used by the pharmaceutical industry; disaster recovery planning software used by risk management for large corporations and governmental agencies worldwide, and event scheduling software used by universities. Development tools were primarily Visual Basic and Uniface.

I’ve had extensive experience with Crystal Report Writer and developed complex reports including multiple sub-reports and formulas that pass values between the main report and sub-reports. I’ve also been involved in development of the GUI for reporting modules in applications.

I’m currently an independent consultant. Some on my contract work includes a contract with Intel as a beta coordinator for their PDK product that allows developers using Visual Basic, Visual C++ and Delphi to incorporate Intel’s Pro-Share video conferencing technology into their own applications.

I haven’t programmed in Visual Basic since version 5, and am finding the new ADO controls very powerful additions to database development, however I’m also finding it difficult to convert the older way of doing things to suit the new controls. I’m learning though, and even though I look for answers to some questions of my own, I find that I can answer questions I see others asking.
