More bioI've been a technologist, organizational and project manager and company/government executive. My formal training is in Engineering and Applied Science with advanced degrees from UCLA in electronic systems and computers. I've participated in mini-MBA courses from Stanford and the Wharton School. I served for over a decade as an elected member of the City Council of a small city and am a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.
I now live in a fairly rural area within a mile of this place:

So, recognizing the market as it presents itself, in recent years I've been providing computer and networking services to small and medium-sized businesses in rural communities of southwest coastal Washington and Oregon as well as similar businesses via remote support. My clients include banks, hospitals, medical and dental clinics, veterinary clinics, attorneys, construction companies, restaurants, building materials suppliers, hotels, cities, homeowner's associations and residential customers. I specialize in peer-to-peer Windows-based networks including some rather extensive ones with edge security and inter-site MPLS/VPN communications. Because of my electronics engineering background, I'm an expert at designing wireless communications and WiFi service systems - all involving networking and antenna systems designs.
I have a strong bias to doing what's right for an enterprise. This includes keeping "production" networks up and running even in the face of upgrades and maintenance. The customer's experience while we work on their environment is of great importance. And, my business experience means that I understand the exigencies of business operations.
I'm an "analytical integrator" and problem solver. It's typical for me to engage a customer in complex situations and to find rather compelling solutions that are novel and efficient.
I am successfully supporting customers whom I've never met face-to-face as remote support technologies have become commonplace. My business relationships endure to become long-lasting, long-term engagements.
In addition to technical computer and networking services, I provide a broad range of business consulting and assistance. This includes financial planning, budgeting and planning for financing facility/utility "short-lived" assets. I develop complex charts of accounts for companies, non-profits and governments and consult on applications and integration of QuickBooks. I develop business plans for companies - particularly new starts and am particularly interested and well-qualified in helping technology companies, among others of course.
I have worked in a number of small electronics companies as their VP Engineering, was a Business Director at Honeywell and a Senior Executive in the Navy Department. I've managed high-availability server design, video product development and undersea systems for the Navy and the offshore oil industry.
