I have a masters degree in chemical engineering, but later in my career I added business administration. My inclination is basically scientific and engineering. I am very organised, systematic and I like mathematics.
I started programming in the early 60's using Fortran 4 and the old punch cards. At one stage I built my own computer from the basic electroninic components. I have used endless programming languages and environments for example DBase, Basic.
At the moment I write business or financial applications in Borland Delphi -- create excel applications, and have many linked and automated spreadsheets using VB macro's. I mentor small business operators with their business management.
I love the challenge of programming and I am often disappointed with programmers creating applications, when they do not understand the business mechanics and how this specific business works. I have seen many instances of near disasters with parameterized software having an 80% match to the tasks. Yet the missing 20% is the killer.
