I'm a hybrid accountant/IT guy with over 25 years workplace experience who found that playing with Excel VBA/Forms , SQL queries and Access integrating these into useful reporting tools was more fulfilling than running Finance departments. Last 5 years I've made a living providing consulting services to Finance departments in companies who want more management reporting from their financial and other data - I sell my skills on the basis that not many IT consultants have held senior Finance jobs and therefore this makes me a perfect choice to investigate Financial process and recommend solutions the accountants will understand as well as the business managers.
