Full Biography

I am a retired database developer and administrator, as well as general applications developer, and with early career experience as an electronics technician. While I am retired from full-time permanent work, I continue as a consultant for database design, performance tuning, and administration, small office IT, and church audio installation, maintenance, and operation.

As time permits I am also engaged in volunteer activities including Experts Exchange, church audio, church facilities management, and Wordpress website development and maintenance. See my LinkedIn profile at https://www.linkedin.com/in/mcb2003 for details not found on this page.

I began as a programming consultant (student assistant) in 1970 while studying for my BSCS degree at California State University, Sacramento, later becoming the computer science department lab technician, near fulll time at first then later as full time salaried staff, as I continued with course work part time. After graduation in 1978 I remained at the university, taking a staff position as lead systems programmer for the campus computer center and its mainframes and minicomputers in 1979. I worked part time as an independent software consultant as well, developing embedded software for meteorological monitoring systems and providing other technical services.

After leaving CSUS, for 2 years I developed software and hardware for wind power generation monitoring systems, working for a small tech startup. I then held corporate positions, working 11 years in computer assisted newspaper publishing development followed by 10 years in various developer/DBA roles at Intel Corporation, where I first began working with SQL Server 6.5 in 1998.

More recently I developed software for a 1-year private linguistics project, spent 5 years in non-profit healthcare, and 2+ years in 911 emergency services data analysis, as a SQL Server/BI developer/DBA. I am now a self-employed consultant at Sql2Go (http://sql2go.com) .

I began participating in Experts Exchange in 2001 while at Intel, and I have returned from time to time as my regular work permitted. I am more active again now that I am retired, depending on project work.
