More bioI'm the maintenance manager & primary LAN weenie on a US Navy ship.
Been involved w/ computers since the mid-'80's. Interests include:
Networking (NT4/Novell/95+98) via OC-3, SONET & 10/100 Ethernet.
Pretty handy in a Unix shell (multiple flavors) though I've never been a
Unix Op. Protocol savvy (RS-232, TCP/IP, 802.3, IEEE-488). Used to
write HP-Basic programs for IEEE-488 devices (mostly electronic test
equipment) and realtime monitoring using Intel-960 based boards. Into
optimizing TCP/IP (95/98) for network gaming (read: "I'm a Quake-head").
Probably my favorite hobby: Building control circuitry for electric train sets
(e.g. using a pseudo-random number generator as a seed to turn lights
on & off in an electric train "city" - or using "hall-effect" transistors to
engage a crossing gate w/ flashing LED "lights" as the train approaches
a roadway).
Currently running an AMD K6-2/350 w/ 192MB RAM, 25.6GB HDD's
(6.4GBx4) and various "home-built" I/O boards connected to things in
my house.
