More bioHello,
My name is Jeff, I'm 23 years old, I live in Idaho, and I've been using computers for 10 years. Eventually my experience with computers led me to a job at Dell (yes, the computer company). I worked there for just a bit over 3 years supporting dimension desktops, latitude and inspiron notebooks, precision workstations, and the poweredge line of servers. After 3 years working tech support, I was making great money and had great benefits with the corporate giant...but I couldn't stand my job. People on the other end of the phone seemed to forget that they were screaming at an actual person, because they acted more like I was a mindless machine with no soul, emotions, or conscience. At the end of my run I was ranked in the top 5 technicians in sever support in my building (out of just over 100). I finally gave Dell the ultimatum, I told them I liked working for the company and would prefer to continue working for the company, but that I could not take anymore tech support....not a whole lot of action from Dell (despite my very supportive manager, who I enjoyed working for very much) and so I left. I now make 9 dollars an hour as an apprentice electrician (about half of what I used to make at dell). I have no health insurance, no life insurance, no 401k, no dental or vision insurance, no stock options, no sick leave, no paid time off, no vacation pay (the list goes on and on), but now I don't hate life; I'm also actually learning things now, instead of just replacing maxtor after maxtor, hehehe. I love working with computers and I love helping people solve their computer problems...that is why I like the EE community (not to mention people here treat me like a human being and are actually thankful for my help/advice) I have general computer knowledge and a WHOLE LOT of dell specific knowledge (don't hesitate to email me if you have questions). My strongest point is my hardware troubleshooting skills, no matter if it is with a desktop computer, a notebook, a server, my car, or a light in a house. Software wise, I am fluient with dos, win9x/nt, win2000, winme, and winxp. I know how to use ms office, setup a windows domain controller and exchange server, setup/maintain/troubleshoo
