Great-granddad, Navy engineer & diver way back, Kiwi, environmentalist, Apple user, ships’ chief engineer, learning economics
More bioRetired marine engineer. Great grandfather.
I pose as an EE expert, but when I get stuck, I rely on real experts like nobus and garycase to dig me out of the mire.
:o)
Windows user since 1991, Amiga and MSDOS before that. I switched to the Mac in 2012 mainly because I became hooked on the iPhone and iPad. I find Apple's OS limiting and infuriating and the hardware tax untenable so I've switched back to Windows.
I've toyed with Linux, but find it frustrating and with Apple's and Microsoft's OSs cost in freefall I can't justify the pain. I'm interested in science & technology, the environment, politics, behaviour, and economics. The more I learn, the more worried I become about the world I'm borrowing from my great-grandchildren.
Our corporate controlled media and political systems ensure that the majority of us have little understanding of the issues they vote on, so democracy is a sham. We have a mixture of oligarchy and mob rule. Until we all understand the exponential function, limits to growth, the pernicious evil of our debt-based monetary system, and the fragility of our environment I fear we're stuffed.
I'd like to spend more time answering questions on EE—it's a great way to learn—but I get addicted and nothing gets done.
:(
I relax by living in a caravan, mainly in New Zealand's wilderness, at no-frills campsites.
So much to do, so much to learn, so little time.
