Full Biography

I'm over 60 and retired except for helping friends and family fix or prevent their IT problems. I also maintain a SOHO used to track items related to the above and my wife's line dancing business. I have worked in and around computers and communications since 1974 when I purchased my first "personal computer", the Altair 8800. (I still have it.) While on active duty with the US Air Force, I was sent to numerous conferences and working groups where the Internet was being defined. I also taught programming, uses of IT in management, computer networking, and telephone-style telecommunications systems. Topping all this theoretical stuff, I have been the project manager on several projects to design and install local area networks including such technologies as Apple Talk, Ethernet, FDDI (Look it up,) and SONET. If I know all that, why am I here? Simple. The Devil's in the details. While I may be able to deliver a lecture on the inner workings of the Internet, knowing where to plug in a cable is a very different ballgame. It also appears that the simpler the procedure being discussed, the less likely it is that the discussion will end up in the help system. That's where Experts Exchange comes in. And who knows? I may be able to answer a question or two myself.
