I wonder if anyone's actually used AWS Snowmobile (https://aws.amazon.com/snowmobile/) yet. They literally send over a semi and shipping container over to you. Onsite personnel configure it as a network storage target, and you can load up to 100 *peta*bytes (more than 100 million gigabytes) of data.  Then, off they go (with an optional security escort) to load it into either S3 or Glacier.  If you managed to get 100 petabytes into S3... the cost is more than $2.2 million/month!

Crazy to think, this company started out as an online bookstore.

I wonder how much of that trailer is dedicated to drive space and if they are actually using solid state.

 

In 10 years we'll probably have a 100PB thumb drive and make jokes about how we used to need a semi.
