I know I've said and written about it a billion times, but I'll say it again, "Your Mac needs antivirus". One of the best antivirus & soft firewall apps that I've used is Intego X9 Premium. It doesn't slow down my system, is easy to use, and has expert/advanced options when I need to use them. Here is a link: https://intego.7eer.net/c/178996/167815/3086

I missed the opportunity to put this out yesterday, but they're still running their "Safer Internet Day" discount. So, just click the link above, click "Buy", and enter the code "SaferInternet" to receive $53 off. X9 Premium usually runs at $89 for a year, so getting it for $36 is a steal. Premium comes with tons of features (antivirus, software firewall, cleaning/performance app, a blocking program to keep your kids safe, and a backup app).

Enjoy!

What are your thoughts on Avast Antivirus (the free version) on Mac?  I've been running that for a couple years now on the Mac and have used Avast on PC for nearly a decade.

Hi Kyle,

Avast is a decent product, but it's only an antivirus. I like to have a software firewall running to bump up my security (plus I can see what applications are running, listening, and block/accept the connections). In addition, I've used other anti-v apps and found that most of them are resource hogs. X9 by Intego isn't a resource hog in the slightest, even though it's scanning everything coming in/out of my Mac (I wouldn't know that if I was just relying on the performance of my Mac when it scanned).

Lastly, Intego is based out of Seattle, Washington and I like supporting my Pacific coast buddies (like EE), while Avast is based out of Prague, Czech Republic. ;)

Nope. =( However, I use a simple VPN called "Cloak". Cloak is awesome in that I can pay for a flat fee membership ($9.99/month) or I can get a "Pass" (Week $3.99, Month $9.99 , Year $99.99) and then protect all of my devices. This means that I can use the app on my Mac, my wife's Mac, my daughter's Mac, my iPhone, my wife's iPhone, my daughter's iPhone, and my iPad, my wife's iPad, and my daughter's iPad.

Here is a link to it: https://www.getcloak.com
