Finally got a mechanical keyboard!  I went with this one from cooler master: http://www.coolermaster.com/peripheral/keyboards/masterkeys-pro-l/

Looks nice! I tried out a mechanical keyboard for a while once, but ended up returning it. The feel of it was really nice and the "clickity-clack" sound was appealing at first, but after a day or so I really felt that it was just too darn loud. How do you feel about the sound on this one?

It's still in the mail unfortunately, but I went for the "brown" switches because they were quieter and have a bump in the middle of the press so you don't have to push them all the way down.  Lifehacker has a pretty good article on all the switch types: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-choose-the-best-mechanical-keyboard-and-why-you-511140347

I'll let you know what it's like when it get's here though!

Ok, cool. Thanks! (The one I had tried was the Razer BlackWidow, back in 2013. Not quite sure what key types they were using on that back then...)

The different key types make a huge difference. I had a Cherry blue for a while but that was too stiff. I tried a brown but that didn't feel right either. Right now I'm using one of the rare Cherry "silent" switch types used in the Corsair Strafe. They're still pretty loud but they're more comfortable for me.

At work I use a scissor-switch style keyboard. I prefer them for regular and quiet typing but they're getting harder to find ever since mechanical keyboards saw a resurgence.
