Over the weekend I was looking into "to-do" apps because I've got too many personal projects in the someday category. I stumbled unto habitica and signed up for it. I'm interested to see if gamifying my tasks will actually help me get through them or just become an annoying gimmick.
I use Habitica too! In fact, I was just telling Jaime about it. If you have older kids (I have an 11-year-old daughter) it really can turn out to be fun and rewarding for both the parents and the kid(s). The reason why it's so rewarding is that the family gets to team up and fight bad guys together (quality bonding time). By you completing your dailies, your character hits the boss for a damage amount that may end up being the killer blow. After the boss is defeated the team is rewarded with cool gear and money. It's like playing the original Final Fantasy, but with real life tasks.
I've been a fan of it and am currently a Level 47 Mage :-)
The gamification can be a great incentive. After something has become a habit though, using the game can be a bit of a hassle. I once lost a level, not because I wasn't getting dailies done, but because I wasn't bothering to go into the app to mark them off! That was kind of annoying. But then again, perhaps once something is a habit I should just, uh... get in the habit of no longer tracking it in the game and striving for a new habit instead ;-)
Other problem I have is that I also happen to really like Trello as a to-do app, since it uses the Kanban board style that I'm a really big fan of. So sometimes I'm switching back and forth between both apps, and that's not really very efficient. Kind of wish I could combine the two...
In any case, welcome aboard and I hope it works out well for you!
So this year I decided it was really about time I applied for the
