For all of the OS X users who don't like Finder, Marta is a free alternative I like. It's still missing features I want but it's an early alpha version of the app.

What don't you like about finder?

Finder is missing lots of little things I'm used to having on Windows and Linux. It's also hard or impossible to customize the left pane in ways I would want. There is no dark theme that I know of.

Marta is missing some of that too but it's alpha and has potential.

I'm pretty curious, what are some specific things you're used to having that you miss from the Finder?

* Full path navigation and being able to type the location.
* Dropdown navigation related to the subfolders of the full path navigation.
* Dropdown for recently visited items.
* F2 to rename files.
* Tabs.
* More view types like content and list (different than the list view on OSX).
* Using the left pane for tree navigation.
* Zoom in/out.
* Themes.
* More options for sort-by.
* Spelling correction.

Nice list, @Brandon! I suspect that several of these may well have similar alternatives in the OS X Finder, but I'm not at Mac at the moment, so I can't confirm for sure or easily explain how. But I'll see if I can take a look later tonight.

I do know that it does support Tabs! So check that out. Here's an article about it:

Aha! That's good to know. I don't use OSX as my daily-driver computer so my info is probably a little out of date and I'm sure I've missed things.

Also, have you ever checked out the Column view option in the Finder? It might handle some of your navigation desires. It's a favorite view of mine.

I usually use column view but it's not always space-efficient due to having the left columns.

What do you mean "the left columns?"

Column view has 3 columns but I never really need the left most column because I'm already in that folder.
