Having problems installing a Windows 10 Feature Update? - Read This

I've regularly had frustrating problems when installing Windows 10 feature updates as they would fail with Error 0x80070005. Most recently when trying to update Windows 10 (Build 17763.973) to the next round of Feature Updates from Microsoft.

Trying well known and documented troubleshooting steps have almost always resulted in being a complete waste of time.

So I've now come to the conclusion that the absolute "quickest way" of dealing with this frustrating error code is to not bother troubleshooting it at all. Rather, just jump straight to the following method when you get that error instead, which has now worked for me every single time without fail.

1. Browse to the Download Windows 10 Microsoft web page and click the "Update now" button

2. Run the downloaded file and allow Windows 10 to update in the background until prompted to restart.

3. Restart and you're done.

Saves a ton of troubleshooting (that almost always fails to resolve the 0x80070005 error) and will save your sanity too. This method will almost certainly work with many other Windows Update error codes as well.

I hope this helps some of you out.

Regards, Andrew
