This has nothing to do with technology, but it's a brilliant and important piece about that nature of beliefs, cognitive bias, and how the human mind responds to information that conflicts with what it already knows. You may have already seen this, but if not, I implore you to give it a read.

Perhaps, if we all understood this, we could work together a little bit more and fight a little bit less...

The cartoon (content) was mediocre, but the 'Neural correlates of maintaining one’s political beliefs in the face of counterevidence' study was very good and worth more than the price of admission. I'll have to search to see if the study was repeated for conservatives (or others). It seems well worth verifying that the same structures become active across a spectrum of belief types.
