Mac Plus and PPP?

I'm donating my old Mac Plus to my mother-in-law (honest!).  She'd like to be able to 'do email' with it, but thusfar I've been unsuccessful at getting the Config PPP control panel to work. When I click on open, the machine crashes giving me a 'Finder Address Error' message. (Using the Mac Plus's external hard drive as the startup disk for another machine, the whole suite works perfectly....)

I suspect that the Mac Plus won't support this stuff, and before I invest any more time in it, I was hoping that somebody out there could either

1. explain how to do it,
or
2. tell me it won't work, and to not waste my time   ;-)

Thank you,

I suspect you are using a 'newer' version of PPP.  I have had excellent success running Mac PPP version 2.0.1 (original) on my sister's machine (Classic), but anything newer will crash it.

You can find it <a href=http://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/HyperArchive/Archive/comm/inet/conn/mac-ppp-201.hqx>here</a>.

Good luck.
