cd-rom

I just lost the cd-rom.  I've tried to start up this performa 6116cd by using command-alt-shift-delete when starting up but all I get is the disk icon with a question mark on it.  I've rechecked the internal cable connections.
The tray still pops in/out when using the front panel button.  When I release the four buttons, the hard disk loads normally, and somewhere down the line, I can see the icon for the cd-rom load.  After the start-up is complete, when I insert any cd in the tray and close the tray, there is no icon for the cd after a few seconds(the way it's supposed to work).  When I go to the window where you can select the start-up disk, normally either the hard disk or the cd-rom, there is only the icon for the hard disk.

If you hold cmd-option-shift-delete while the system software CD is in the drive and it does not see it you have a bad CD drive or the CD is dammaged. Another possibility is to hold down 'c' when starting up. Try inserting any other CD after normal startup. If it does not show then it is your drive. You will have to get it repaired.
