I am looking for a cgi script that implements login & password protection for some directories of a web server.
In fact the script you are using in this site to ask for user ID and password.
Is this available.
  1) I do just want to protect directories
  2) Our webmaster use Internet Information server with NT but he wants me to pay to implement protection and I think that some cgi's can handle (like "webkey" for unix) it for free
            Thanks for help!!!

IIS implements a couple of methods to protect directories access. more detail is provided from ISM by choosing, Help->IIS topics and read chapter 5.

do the following steps and examine methods A,B

  1) run Microsoft Internet Service manager
  2) run the web server
  3) view the properties for your web server

A)
  1) Select the Advanced tab
  2) Choose grant/deny ip addresses.

B) Use NT/challenge response
  1) select the service tab
  2) check "Windows NT Challenge response"
this will allow users in your domain to access the web server. Good for LAN (Intranet)

These methods are not ideal in all senarios.
Will your users be local and support challenge/response ?
Can you identify your users by ip addresses ?
There are some sample ISAPI programs which allow authentication at http://www.isapideveloper.net/isapisrc.html
pay attention to the AuthFilt project.
