Hard Disk Crashed

When I booted up several days ago I one of my 2 internal hard disks crahsed. It said something like "This disk is unreadable. Would you like to initialize it? Eject Initialize." I hit Eject and tried to fix La Cie 1250-Q with everything that I have; Disk First Aid 7.2.2, Norton Utilities 3.2.3, and MacTools Pro 4.0.3. Nothing can fix it, but Norton Unerase found all of my files.

La Cie 1250-Q is a 1.2 GB hard disk with only 18 MB free. The only way that I know of to fix my hard disk is to unerase all of my files to another disk with 1.2 GB free, format La Cie 1250-Q, and copy the files back again. I can't afford another 1.2 GB hard disk. How else can I fix my hard disk? Are there any programs that I haven't tried? Are there any companies that rent hard disks? What can I do to ensure that this does not happen again?

I am using Silverlining® 5.6.4 as the driver on La Cie 1250-Q.

Here are some error reports:

You've done all the right things - sorry they've not worked for you.

You have no choice as far as I can see but to run the Norton's recover program, but I don't think you have to choose ALL the files in one pass to do the recovery. If you can borrow a zip drive and some blank zip disks, then you can select the files you want to recover in 100 meg lots (hopefully!) With some bad blocks, probably you will not be able to recover all files in any case.

Then you may be able to reformat the drive and copy back to it the files you stored temporarily on the zip drive or wherever you put them.

It's messy but I don't see any other solution, unless you can borrow or hire a large external drive or rent a backup tape. I don't think there are any quick fixes.

Good luck....

Rifty.
