I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Your problem is not with your resolv.conf - it's perfect.
Your /etc/hosts is bungled I imagine since ppp is thinks your
lo is 0.0.0.0 - Should be:

127.0.0.1     localhost.nif.com    guanica
206.113.3.8   guanica.nif.com  # only if the IP is static
# otherwise leave the second line out

If that doesn't fix it, post your actual chat script next time
and I'll take a look
