IE prints grey background to text

I am using IE 3.01. It prints a grey background to all text on a printed page. Visio 4 does this as well. The printer is an HP 820Cxi, and the installation fairly normal.

Other s/w includes Office 7, VC++ 4.2, VB, Serif DrawPlus and various kids games.

I am unfamiliar with this printer but it must have a control panel where you can change various options (contrast etc)
Reset all options that control quality and darkness of the printer back "default" and try it again

All options are set to their default value. This problem is I think something to do with default fonts and their settings. I have also now noticed the same problem with a diagram from Visio 3 printed with Visio 4 where the template which was used to create the original drawing was not installed.
  Did you try to change printing properties???  Sorry if this question sounds silly.

The printer prperties are what sagely1 was refering to.
You know, the same thing happened to me two weeks ago.

I have a Canon BJC 210 and I noticed this happened after I installed Corel Draw 7.0.

If I find out, I'll post.
Under IE check ->options->general.  If you have "use windows" colors checked, and your color scheme has a gray background..this could be your problem.

I actually solved it in IE by turning off "use windows" colours. The background is set to white when I checked it in Display in the Control Panel.

Of course the problem remains in Visio which I fix by selecting all and changing the fill on the font properties. Not handy but it works!
Sorry, but what is the real issue now or is this really done?
Only happened in IE and Visio, wasn't clear why u mentioned the kids games ;)
I too fell victim briefly to that windows colors box 8(

I know this problem is sorted but I have a few tips for you.
I had a similar problem with my HP printer.

I tried 2 things (and to be honest I cant remember which one sorted it.) I think it was the second.

the first is to download the LATEST drivers from


if this doesnt work switch to the generic driver i.e. HP550C driver within windows.

one of these two steps should sort the problem for you.
(without having to fiddle with the software.)
