.out to s-record converter

I need to convert the executable programs produced from the GNU ld linker (.out format) to Motorola S3 record format for downloading purposes. I am using the MIPS cross version of GNU ld ( ldmips ) on a SUN/solaris2.1. I searched the internet extensively. The only utility I saw that may do this is in the binutils package, called objcopy. I'm not sure if we have these utilities installed on our system. I was wondering if there is a simple utility, perhaps written by Motorola, that can convert several different binary formats to srecords? There is a utility called "Hex" that came with our WindRiver VxWorks C compiler that can convert .out to S1 or S2 record formats but not S3. I don't know why it can't convert to S3. Perhaps it was written before 32 bit processors were popular.
