Help - Audio CD

I really enjoy listening to my audio cd player while working on my Mac Performa 5260.  Recently I have been getting an error type 1 when I try to play an audio cd.  I've tried dumping the audio cd preferences, but that
doesn't help.  Rebuilding the desktop helped, however, a session or two later the error type 1 is back.  Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this problem?

The error 1 is a bus error; it can be related to almost anything, starting from you system to your memory modules and to your logic board.
Try the following :
- first make sure your logic board is OK (there are series of Performas 52XX with bad cache on the logic board; your local dealer can give you a small utility to test the logic board or you can find it on the internet; replacement is covered by an extended warranty).
- try booting without all extension, and keeping only the CD-ROM related ones; if the problem disappears, it might be a conflicting extension/system
- try installing a new system from the System CD provided with your Performa
