editing wwwboard.pl

When i try to edit wwwboard cgi script.

The only thing I change was everywhere <body> Is i change it to put a background on the message.



It still didn't work but i will give you an "A" for trying.

i fixed what Voodoo tell me to do but it still didn't work.
Ok I will do that now the url will be http://www2.dtc.net/~chrisall/wwwboard2/wwwboard.pl.txt
It was working fine before I made these simple changes.

 sorry I wwrote the wrong url.
I have a working one located at http://www2.dtc.net/~chrisall/wwwboard/wwwboard.html that I didn't change the message.

I already try to put "\"in front of it. Please look at the acturlly script to see before answering

Check that you have pre-empted all instances of " characters with a \ character. This sounds like the most likely cause of the problem, given that you mention the inclusion of the background tag.

I actually referred to the "\" character, not "/", but I'll assume thats what you meant!

I can't answer this question without seeing a copy of the script that you edited. Can you link to a copy of it, so that its chucked back by your server as just plain text? Renaming it to a ".txt" extension , and placing it in your HTML directory will usually do the trick...

The variable for $background is not terminated with a closing quote, and semi-colon...

In future, errors like these can be picked up by running it through perl's syntax check system:

perl -wc script.pl

This will highlight any obvious errors in statement construction...
