Don't mix up C and C++. If you want C++, read:

Bjarne Stroustrup
the C++ programming language (second edition)

If you want C, read:

Brian Kernighan and Deniis Ritche
The C programming language (second edition)

of course there's a plethora of other books available, but
the two listed above are considered the 'bible' for these
two languages ...

kind regards,

The answer I read that you got does not answer your question correctly if I'm to comment .

I would say that you should first start with a small program to write someting to the screen. Then a program to read some input from the keyboard and write that to screen. If you can do that, I would say that you are almost half there. That is the basic in starting to program. After that you can do a program for each new section that you study in your book. Most of them have problems at the end of each chapter. It is a goed idea to do some of those. You can also do the examples that is usualy given with each new command you learn.

A good book you can also work with is Problem Solving using C++.
It is a step by step guide to beginning to program C/C++ and then teaches you each command by itselve. We use it at the university for beginners.
