latex on SUN

I am using the freely available Solaris-package for TeX and Metafont on my SUN 20, Solaris 2.5.
After installation it turned out that hyphenation was not available. Ichanged a few things (german support...) in the lplain-file and ran initex to build a new latex.fmt. Without success - hyphenation is still not available.
Any suggestions why?

Thanks,

Hmm, I have here running Solaris 2.5 and LaTeX (TeX) and hyphenation in English and German (Gruesse aus Muenchen). I assume that latex.fmt was built without error messages (you didn't mention any). We might go through your prob step by step and you should give more hints, what is wrong. Are there error messages, or is hyphnation just not working?

By now I can show you what I did in hyphen.ltx to support German hyphenation:

%% the followoing 3 lines added by PxH
\message{Loading hyphenation patterns for German.}
      \language=1 \lefthyphenmin=2 \righthyphenmin=3
      \input hypheng.tex

As you see I introduce German as a second language, so it is possible to coexist with English hyphenation.

I wait for more input from you. And please let me know which TeX package you p[recisely have. There is also a german style file in my LaTeX distribution, which does a \selectlanguage and assumes German is language number 1. Just another hint, where things might go wrong.
